Aqua Tofana
Special edition · 10ml Eau de Parfum
Juicy, black Belladonna berries. Honeyed osmanthus tisane. Tobacco Leaves, Bloodied Orange, Jasmine Petals. Powdered Orris root. A widow's satisfied smile.
How do you make a perfume based on an odorless poison?
Aqua Tofana was a clear, tasteless, odorless, slow-acting poison believed to be made of arsenic and Belladonna. It is attributed to Giulia Tofana, a poisoner who specialized in crafting her potions to help abused and mistreated women.
Poisons like it were dubbed “Inheritance Powder,” since they took weeks to months to kill the victim, allowing time to change their will. Aqua Tofana had men across Europe fearing for their lives. And with good reason—Giulia Tofana is credited with killing upward of 600 men.
Using the ingenious disguise of perfume and other cosmetic bottles with a picture of Saint Nicholas, the poison could sit undetected on a woman’s vanity, merely a religious devotional, until the inconvenience of her husband could be put to rest.
This perfume draws inspiration from the image of Evelyn De Morgan’s The Love Potion (1903).
Ingredients & allergens

Before you wear these
None of my fragrances or balms should ever be ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals, and if you are pregnant it's not a good idea to use essential oils.
Essential and fragrance oils are very potent and can cause allergies or rashes. Always test a fragrance — mine or anyone else's — on a small patch of skin to make sure it won't bother you. Full ingredients are listed with each day above; if you have a known allergy to one of them, don't wear that one.
If you have a reaction to a product, discontinue use immediately, cleanse the area, and seek medical attention if it's serious. Please let me know as well. More on ingredients, IFRA and MoCRA on the ingredient info page.
